The Independent reported recently that public sector jargon has been banned by the first style guide for Government announcements. Government ‘lingo’, heavily satirised by writers of The Thick of It, is out and, arguably more meaningful, plainer and more direct lingo is in.
Some of the banned words include; *Deliver (this is for pizzas and post not government) *Slimming down (‘processes don’t diet’) *Collaborating *Pledging *Empowerment *Tackling (unless it is rugby, football or some other sport)
At ZPB we can think of a few more words that could be added to the guide. How about ‘blue sky thinking’, ‘thinking outside the box’ or ‘innovative solutions’?
