At ZPB we enjoy mixing data analysis with effective design. We were therefore excited to see infographic designer David McCandless’s latest work on the greatest causes of death in the 20th century. Despite the morbidity of the subject matter, the answers to this question are striking.
Information is Beautiful gathered and examined mortality data from around the world – from disease to murder to mudslides – then calculated and visualised what killed the most people. The team’s work draws on a public dataset found here.
The result was a large scale visualisation art-piece for the Wellcome Collection’s free London exhibition,’Death: A Self-Portrait – The Richard Harris Collection’.
