PR Account Manager

Your PR skills

  • Passion for media, current affairs – specifically healthcare media - and how this translates into opportunities for our clients

  • Confident to support our clients, guiding and advising them through the development and execution of campaigns

  • Enthusiastic to handle complex sell ins and detailed media enquires with advice and support from your account director

  • Able to write strong press releases, feature articles, thought leadership content and case studies, with experience securing impactful media coverage

  • Confident to manage media inquiries and able to develop long term relationships with journalists and other influencers

  • Able to work with a variety of spokespeople, building trust and supporting to maximise the opportunity of media interviews. This includes including interviewing patients, carers and senior stakeholders.

  • Detailed knowledge of digital platforms and appropriate channels for different content - able to advise client authoritatively on these and how to develop unique content for client campaigns

  • In depth understanding of how PR sits within the marketing mix and how content can translate across channels

  • Ability to understand business objectives and how this translates into meaningful evaluation processes for PR

The Account Director role at ZPB is a fundamental leadership role within the team.

As well as supporting the Chief Commercial Officer you will be given the autonomy to run your own accounts adding value to clients and our business every step of the way. A strong understanding of pharma market access is essential, as well as deep scientific knowledge. You will come from a healthcare agency background, understand world-class client service alongside strategic insight.

You will have business development targets with a mix of selling and delivery included within this role


Within the pharma sector the areas of work include:

  • market access

  • patient engagement

  • patient advocacy

  • marketing, PR & comms

  • senior leadership teams


Areas of work include strategic market access, market development, KOL / network mapping, research projects within the NHS, thought leadership building MSL tools, patient research and engagement, patient advocacy.

One of the key factors is that you are part of a growing team within the pharma and life sciences sector.

Alongside healthcare services & digital health and technology, the pharma client base at ZPB Associates is growing and a key part of our future.


The role

You will work predominantly (though not exclusively) with our current and potential new pharmaceutical & life sciences clients to understand their challenges and design effective, innovative, and exciting strategies to help them achieve success. Whether global leaders or smaller specialists, you will help them understand their customers and wider stakeholders, the societal, commercial and policy environment, and work with them to change and influence behaviour within their own organisations as well as within their market.


You will lead day to day client relationships and cultivate strong and long-lasting partnerships, working with your clients to achieve their objectives – on time and to budget. You will own and take responsibility for your own portfolio of client accounts and be a proactive advisor, spotting and converting new opportunities for incremental value. And you will operate as a senior member of the ZPB team, acting as a mentor and leader to your colleagues and helping to drive the business forward overall, line managing more junior members and helping them grow and develop.

You are

  • An expert in UK market access

  • Experience in the pharmaceuticals & life sciences sector, but with the ability to think more broadly and deliver programmes that are audience-led

  • At least 6 years’ healthcare experience, working across a wide range of communications tools and channels, and a range of audiences

  • A scientific academic background

  • Able to lead projects from brief and pitch through to delivery

  • An analytical and ever-curious mind, creative and strategic in your approach, while also being commercially savvy and having a super-sharp eye for detail

  • Positive and passionate about health and healthcare; particular knowledge of the UK health system or experience working with UK pharma clients a plus

  • A natural growth mindset, attracted to the opportunity of taking a high performing organisation to the next level

  • Enjoy working independently but also as part of a small tight-knit team, supporting a culture of continual development, and benefiting from each individual’s specialist knowledge and unique contribution

  • Location flexible but must be able to travel to South London regularly to work from our office HQ

Skills within the pharma sector

These exist across three main areas of:

  • Strategy

  • Research and Insight

  • Communications and marketing

Some examples of projects we undertake are:

  • Undertaking primary research to develop a pharma company’s understanding of the ICS health economies

  • Developing a detailed patient care pathway across cancer, working with our analyst team.

  • Creating a patient engagement strategy for “lost to follow up” patients across an infectious disease

  • Lead the execution of marketing programs from start to finish, leveraging client support and driving collaboration

  • Creating, maintaining, and conducting analytics reporting across multiple platforms and extract key insights for future campaign development and go-to-market strategies, complete with formal proposals and recommendations on tactics
