Account Director (Communications)

Join us and work on the most interesting and inspiring briefs in healthcare. Challenge yourself with strategic problems, big budgets and innovative delivery, all the while making a difference for people who use health and care services.


  • At least 5 years’ experience in healthcare communications, working at a global and local market level. Preferably with UK healthcare experience.  

  • Extensive experience of full communications mix from planning and strategy to delivery and channel activation 

  • Proven ability to develop proposals, lead pitch teams and win work

  • Commercially savvy with demonstrable experience growing (as well as winning) clients 

  • Prior experience managing a portfolio of clients with commercial targets attached 

  • Enjoy working independently but also as part of a small tight-knit team.

  • Confident to build a team around a delivery programme, give excellent considered feedback, and building a learning culture that means every piece of work that goes out the door is 10/10

  • Expert in the healthcare system, but with the ability to think broadly and deliver programmes that are audience-led

  • Previous health communications consultancy/agency experience, working across a wide range of communications tools and channels 

  • An analytical and ever-curious mind, creative in your approach, while also being commercially savvy 

  • Great communication and writing skills and with a super-sharp eye for detail

  • Location flexible but must be able to travel to central London regularly to work from our office HQ


You’ll work with our clients to understand their challenges and design effective, innovative communications strategies to help them achieve success. 

Whether global or UK leaders, or smaller specialists, you will help them understand customers and wider stakeholders, patients, HCPs as well as the societal, commercial and policy environment. You will work with them to change and influence behaviour within their own organisations as well as within their market.

You will lead day-to-day client relationships and cultivate strong and long-lasting partnerships, working with your clients to achieve their objectives by providing strategic counsel, insights, and recommendations based on industry knowledge and market trends – on time and within scope and budget. 

You will own and take responsibility for your own commercial portfolio of client accounts and be a proactive advisor, spotting and converting new opportunities.  As well you will develop and implement strategic account plans to meet your clients' business objectives to drive growth.

You will work closely with internal teams to guarantee effective implementation of client projects, spanning market research, communications and marketing campaigns and stakeholder engagement initiatives. As a senior member of the ZPB team, you will serve as a mentor and leader to your colleagues, actively contributing to advancing the business as a whole.


  • Strong understanding of the healthcare and pharma landscape, including knowledge of key stakeholders, trends and challenges.

  • Confident to lead pitch teams and win new business.

  • Track record in developing and growing clients. 

  • Enthusiastic to manage and maintain a portfolio of clients with related commercial targets. 


  • Passion for strategic thinking and understanding of how this relates to organisations of different sizes at different stages.

  • Proven experience of leading and creating communications strategies for clients across multiple territories. 

  • Experience in thought leadership and how this can be used to secure share of voice and influence policy and stakeholders. 

Content and channels:

  • Passionate about content as the engine room of delivery. Able to create innovative content strategies supporting the team to deliver with excellent copy and visualization flexibly adapted for different channels.

  • Be a champion for the quality of content created challenging unimaginative execution and repetitive delivery. 

  • Confident to identify and manage a wide range of channels including PR, social and digital media and engagement. 

Strategic counsel and influencing: 

  • Confident in engaging with senior clients including CMOs and CEOs ensuring that their voices and perspectives support the development of activity, strategies and account growth. 

  • Intensely interested in changes to the market, consumer trends and the activities of competitors and able to adjust marketing strategies and delivery if necessary.

Budget management and KPIs:

  • Experience in managing and reconciling large budgets (up to £1.5m).

  • Confident in financial analysis and reporting to track budget allocation, monitor spending, and optimise resource utilisation. 

  • Strong negotiation skills and a proven track record of effectively managing supplier relationships to achieve cost savings and quality outcomes.

  • Experience in developing and implementing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure project success and performance. 

Insight and research: 

  • Understanding of qualitative and quantitative methodologies and how these can be deployed to support strategy development, execution and evaluation.


  • £50-60k annual salary 

  • Annual bonus based on company and personal performance

  • 25 days annual holiday, including between Xmas and New Year off and an additional day per year earned for the first three years
