Carving out company culture through lockdowns has award winning results

By Zoe Bedford, Chief Executive and Holly Sutton, Communications Partner

Virtual award ceremonies are probably not top of the list of things we’d like to continue after lockdowns. But they have given us a moment to reflect on what an extraordinary year 2020 was for ZPB.

We’ve been on six awards shortlists this year – so sat through several remote ‘celebrations’ – but it’s all worth it when you win!

At last week’s PR Week Healthcare and Pharma Awards, we picked up the award for Best Use of Public Affairs in a Healthcare Campaign and Highly Commended as Healthcare Comms Agency of the Year.

This is on top of the six award shortlists in various Public Relations, Strategic Consultancy of the Year, PR professional of the Year and Public Affairs categories on PRCA National, Health Investor and Drum PR Awards, where we also had highly commended and a win.

As pretty much everyone else on the planet had to – we’ve had a lot of rethinking our working and team model to adapt to today’s reality. Maintaining the necessary momentum and team cohesion to deliver award winning work requires constant attention. What’s become more apparent than ever before during the pandemic is that that this attention doesn’t just sit with the company management.

Maintaining a company culture and sense of team isn’t a one-man job. It’s a team job and it’s very much part of our culture that each of us has a responsibility to maintain it.  When working remotely, everyone has had to be much more proactive in making their contributions to the team capital at ZPB – proactively leading conversations, initiatives and ideas now we don’t have those corridor chats, incidental meetings and bump-ins much missed in office life.

We’ve seen natural leaders emerge in the last 12 months, and we’ve also started to see leadership skills emerging at an earlier stage within the team too.  So that’s why winning these awards is so important to us – so that everyone in the team can share in our successes and know what it feels like to be part of a winning team.
